A year ago, I had a wild idea to build and launch my own website and start publishing some patterns.
What a year it has been…
I have learned SO much (much of it the hard not-so-easy way) and met some wonderful people along the way. While I’m still not very awesome at the internet stuff or social media for that matter, but I’m getting there. Challenges are good, and genuinely kind people out there are just the best thing ever!
WoolenCottage’s home base moved from super-sunny Florida, to Arkansas this year. What can I say, I missed having a reason to wear big sweaters, hats, and mitts!
It all started with the Tiny Toes Baby Socks…
Have you knit a pair of these yet? I honestly never get tired of knitting another tiny pair.
I did not at all imagine they would be so popular, but I’m ever so glad that many others are enjoying them as much as I do. If you’re new here, you can check them out here if you like.
Notice that photo, with the blurry bit at the bottom? Yeah, I’ve hopefully improved my photography skills this year too.
Pattern Writing… Can I really be a “designer”?
Fun fact about me… I wobble between confident and self-doubting. Then I throw a big dollop of perfectionism (not always the good kind) on top. So it was a bit terrifying starting to publish my patterns. I have notebooks of my scribbles and I have good teaching skills, but to put a product out there… I guess it was exciting and terrifying all at the same time.
It’s been an amazing process and the connections I’ve had with people knitting my designs is just beyond anything I could have hoped for. It’s interesting to see how different patterns are received. The Mitten Top was most popular this year. Yeah, I get it, I can see why so many people grabbed this pattern to make a pair. They are terrifically fun!
Adventures with Dyes
This last year I dyed more yarn than I ever have before. And guess what? I love it! It’s amazingly fun and I miss it so much. I am living in a temporary home and just don’t have the proper setup to have the pots and dye out. But you can be sure as soon as it’s feasible, I will be back to coloring all of my naked yarns!
In the Meantime…
Without my dye pots, I apparently collect a lot of yarns with colors I wish I was creating. I’m definitely having a bit of a color moment right now, as opposed to my normally neutral palette.
There’s a lot of knitters, crocheters, crafters in general that say you can never have too much yarn. I am not one of them! I definitely can and sometimes do have too much yarn for my minimalist lifestyle. There’s just one solution I can think of when I find myself with too much good yarn…
Sharing yarn is fun!
I’m working on a fabulously fun giveaway to celebrate a year of WoolenCottage out in the world wide web. So keep coming back, there’s plenty of fun to be had in this little internet space for years to come.
