Happy October! I’ve started a sock knit-along on my Patreon page Socks & Sweaters, and I wanted to share bits with you all here 🙂
Care to join me in making a fun, textured pair of Autumnal socks? There will be a bit more offered on the Patreon page, but you’re welcome to join in here too.
Here’s the schedule of posts – You’ll have everything you need for a completed sock by October 15th, so there’s plenty of time to finish the pair and wear by Halloween 🙂
- October 2nd (today) – Cast On & Cuff
- Saturday, October 3rd – Textured pattern for the Leg
- Tuesday, October 6th – Heel
- Thursday, October 8th – Gusset
- Saturday, October 10th – Foot
- Tuesday, October 13th – Toe
- Thursday, October 15th – Finishing
I chose a self-striping yarn from Freckled Whimsy. It’s called Kitschy Christmas and came as part of the Christmas Club for 2026. I’ve been using the other club colorways in an ongoing Christmas blanket, and these colors just didn’t fit the others. I love them though, and think they look very Halloween/Thanksgiving to me.
The pattern is one I’ve previously published, called Piney Woods. It’s one of my favorites for texture, but I’d never used self-striping yarns with it before, so it’s a new adventure. (Turns out, I really like it with the striping colors.)
What you need to get started
- 100g fingering weight sock yarn – I’m using stripes, but ANY colors work with this pattern: solid, tonal, variegated, speckled, patterning…
- Contrast colors if you’d like – I’ll be using a contrast for the heel… and maybe the toe too
- 2.25mm (US 1) 32″ circular needles for MagicLoop technique, or whatever you like to use
- 2 stitch markers
Pick out some Fall-Vibe yarn and let’s get some new socks on your feet 🙂 ~Lisa

Socktober is such a fun tradition! My second pair of the month is on the needles in a deep cranberry colorway – nothing like crisp autumn air to make you want wool in your hands. Happy knitting!
