My new favorite lace pattern socks to knit and wear. Check out the pattern here.
The story behind the sock…
I have vivid memories of my childhood, especially of my wardrobe and accessories. I had 3 drawers I was allowed to choose my clothes from: 1 for school, 1 for play, and 1 for Sundays. In that Sunday drawer was a pair of lace patterned tights that I wore as often as I could. Let’s just say this was the early 80’s and I still remember them now. They were that pretty and that special.
Working off my memories of those tights, I designed the Sweet Tea socks and got to knitting them up. They absolutely flew off my needles! I knit a complete pair in 4 days. For me, that’s fast but I just didn’t want to put the needles down and I wanted needed them on my feet. I couldn’t be happier with these socks and feel I may need 12 pairs in my drawer…
The Pattern Details
Sweet Tea socks pattern has tips for MagicLoop technique (since that is my favorite sock technique). For DPN fans, it’s super easy to adapt. Three sizes are included and they all maintain a centered pattern.
Knit cuff down, lace starts after a delicate cuff and continues to the toe. The pattern is all around the leg, just like my vintage tights. The heel flap is worked a bit differently which makes it appear woven. Standard square Dutch heel and gussets. The toe is the second of my ‘best fitting toes’.
It’s a 12 round repeat with 4 pattern rounds and 8 just-knit rounds. This is why they knit up so fast, it’s relaxing and engaging to work though.
Sweet Tea & Sundays
Sipping sweet tea brewed in the sun and wearing/knitting my Sweet Tea Socks is a perfect Sunday for me. I love vintage things that spark memories!
